Located in northeastern Inner Mongolia and named after Hulun Lake and Buir Lake, Hulun Buir Grassland is famed as one of Asia's most luxuriant grasslands. Sloping from east to west at an altitude of about 650–700 meters, it covers roughly 100,000 square kilometers. To the east and south rise the Greater Khingan Mountains; to the west and southwest the grassland continues into Mongolia. The Ergun River bounds the north and forms part of the border with Russia.

In summer Hulun Buir enjoys pleasant weather, with average temperatures of 16°C–21°C. Stepping onto this boundless plain beneath a vast sky fills visitors with exhilaration and delight. It's common to see Mongolian horsemen galloping across the grass, driving herds—a spectacular sight often described as the "thunder of ten thousand galloping hooves." A succession of ethnic festivals such as the Oroqen Bonfire Festival, Grassland Naadam, Ewenki Sebin Festival, and the Sacrificing Aobao (Oboo) ceremony showcase the area's rich and diverse grassland culture.
