Renowned as "the pinnacle of world karst landscapes," the Yunnan Stone Forest showcases a breathtaking array of karst landforms spanning a vast area. Its distinctive limestone structures, sculpted through complex geological processes, hold exceptional value for scientific research, education, and aesthetic appreciation.

The region includes several scenic zones, such as the Shilin (Stone Forest) Scenic Area, Naigu Stone Forest, Dadieshui Waterfall, Changhu Lake, and Guishan National Forest Park. At its core lies the Shilin Scenic Area—a quintessential example of sword-like karst topography formed in pure limestone. Its five sub-areas—Greater Stone Forest, Lesser Stone Forest, Bushao Mountain, Liziyuanqing, and Wannian Lingzhi—feature a striking variety of stone peaks resembling swords, pillars, towers, mushrooms, balanced rocks, and other imaginative shapes.
Greater Stone Forest
This area is characterized by dense clusters of bluish-gray stone peaks. Towering formations rise abruptly from the ground, steep and majestic, with the tallest individual rock columns soaring over 40 meters high.

Lesser Stone Forest
Sharp-edged stone pillars stand harmoniously amid lush vegetation, creating scenes of delicate beauty and serene charm.

Bushao Mountain
The highest point within the Shilin Scenic Area, Bushao Mountain offers impressive views of columnar stone formations. Notable features include the "Five Stone Gates" and the "Pine Waves of Bushao."
Liziyuanqing Stone Forest
Across miles of wild hills and valleys, extraordinary stone pillars and bizarre rock shapes dot the landscape. Ancient cliff paintings left by the Yi people adorn the rock surfaces, depicting vivid figures of humans, animals, stars, and the moon—all conveying a sense of primal mystery.
Wannian Lingzhi Stone Forest
A remarkable stretch of tall gray stone peaks shaped like mushrooms and pagodas creates a spectacular vista. Among them, a 15-meter-high rock formation resembles a giant lingzhi mushroom, giving the area its name.
