Foreign travelers can book hotels online through Trip.com (via its official website, app, or the TripHotels mini-program available in Alipay) and make payment directly using international cards, or make reservation by phone.
Yes, registration is mandatory. Upon check-in, the hotel will complete the accommodation registration in accordance with Article 39 of the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China: Where foreigners stay in hotels in China, the hotels shall register their accommodation in accordance with the regulations on the public security administration of the hotel industry, and submit foreigners' accommodation registration information to the public security organs in the places where the hotels are located.
The check-in process is straightforward. Simply present a valid ID at the reception, confirm your reservation details, complete a brief registration form, and you will then receive your room key card.
The following original documents are accepted for hotel registration in China:
(1) Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card;
(2) Passport;
(3) Foreigner's exit-entry permit;
(4) Seafarer's Certificate;
(5) Receipt of acceptance of a visa application issued by the exit and entry administration authority of the public security organs of China;
(6) Passport loss report certificate;
(7) Temporary international travel documents issued by embassies and consulates in China (with valid visas or stay certificates issued by the exit and entry administration authority of the public security organs of China attached).
Foreign travelers may pay with cash (RMB), bank cards, Alipay, or WeChat. Inquire in advance whether Mastercard, Visa, or other international cards are accepted when paying by bank card. Some hotels also accept Apple Pay and PayPal; confirm with the hotel before making a payment.
