Kunqu Opera is one of the oldest surviving Chinese operas, originating in the Ming Dynasty (14th–17th century). Its vocal style is highly artistic and has exerted tremendous influence on all later Chinese operatic genres, including Sichuan Opera and Peking Opera. In May 2001, Kunqu Opera was inscribed on the first list of "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity". In 2008, it was automatically incorporated into the "Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity".

Qiandeng Ancient Town
It is the hometown of Gu Jian, the forefather of Kunqu Opera, and is also the birthplace of the patriot and scholar Gu Yanwu. The ancient town preserves classic water-town scenery, stone-paved streets, traditional residences, and Qinfeng Pagoda. Its Liangzhu and operatic cultures run deep.

Bacheng Old Street
Bacheng Old Street sits along the water, with Qing and Republican-era architecture preserved on both banks.
