Namtso, meaning "Heavenly Lake" in Tibetan, sits at an elevation of 4,718 meters, making it China's third-largest saltwater lake and the highest large lake in the world. Nestled in the mountains about 60 kilometers northwest of Dangxiong county in the Xizang autonomous region, Lake Namtso holds profound spiritual significance for Tibetans. During the Tibetan Year of the Sheep, pilgrims journey from afar to take part in the grand Namtso Circumambulation Festival.

Guest-greeting Stones: Two massive natural boulders believed to be the sacred guardians of Lake Namtso.
Hezhang (Praying Hands) Stone: A natural rock formation shaped like palms pressed together in prayer, revered as a site for blessings.
Lakeside Boardwalk: A serene path along the shore offering glimpses of waterbirds skimming the lake surface and panoramic views of the snow-capped Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains.
Holy Elephant Gate

A recent social‑media sensation on the northern shore of Lake Namtso (about a two‑hour drive from Zhaxi Peninsula), this spot is named for a natural stone arch resembling an elephant drinking from the lake. The massive rock forms a lifelike elephant silhouette, its "trunk" dipping into the water—creating a breathtaking frame of lake and mountains. It has become one of Lake Namtso's most iconic views.
