Nestled just 5 kilometers south of Dunhuang, the Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring Scenic Area is a breathtaking sight where desert and spring coexist in harmony. This natural masterpiece has captivated visitors for centuries, earning its reputation as a true "Desert Wonder."

True to its name, Mingsha Mountain "sings" as the wind shifts its sands. Formed entirely of flowing dunes, it displays a striking palette of five colors—red, yellow, green, white and black. From above, its curved ridges rise sharply like blades, creating a dramatic, layered silhouette. Under the sun, the sand forms elegant, wave-like patterns where light and shadow play, revealing a landscape of remarkable depth and texture.

Within this sea of sand lies a miraculous oasis: Crescent Spring, acclaimed as one of the finest desert springs in the world. Named for its exquisite crescent-moon shape, it is a pool of clear water resting serenely beside the towering dunes, creating a scene of surreal beauty.

Visitors can immerse themselves in classic desert adventures: camel trekking across the vast sands, sliding down dune slopes, or taking VR panoramic tours. Its significance is reflected in its inclusion in the Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geopark and designation as a National Ecotourism Demonstration Area, as well as accolades such as "China's Five Most Beautiful Deserts," "China's Best Natural Scenic Destination," and "China's Most Beautiful Moon-Viewing Spot."

For generations, Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring have been celebrated for the poetic harmony of "mountain and spring coexisting, sand and water thriving together." This iconic duo is a signature emblem of Gansu tourism. Together with the magnificent art of the Mogao Caves on the eastern foothills of Mingsha Mountain, they form the twin pillars of Dunhuang's heritage—the "Two Great Wonders" that continue to draw travelers from across the globe.
