Answer: Shaped as a kneeling palace maid holding a lamp, the Changxin Palace Lantern contains an ingenious built-in air-purifying system. When the flame is lit inside the lantern, smoke and soot are drawn by heat into the maid’s hollow sleeves, then into the lantern body, and finally settle into a water-filled chamber at the base, capturing pollutants and cleaning the air.
