Western Han Dynasty

Height: 1.8 cm, Side length: 2.3 cm, Weight: 89.5 g

Unearthed between 1955 and 1960 at Shizhaishan, Jinning, Yunnan Province

This seal is made of gold, with the seal face engraved in seal script with the four characters "Seal of the King of Dian."

According to the Records of the Grand Historian · Account of the Southwestern Barbarians, in 109 BCE, the King of Dian surrendered to the Han Dynasty. Emperor Wu of Han established Yizhou Commandery in the Dian region and bestowed a royal seal upon the King of Dian, allowing him to continue ruling over the Dian people. The discovery of this gold seal confirms this historical account.
