Yangshan rice cakes are a traditional specialty food from Yangshan Town in Huishan District, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. Known for their soft and chewy texture, they embody the region's deep cultural heritage and rustic flavors. In 2025, the pastry-making craft (Yangshan Rice Cake–Making Technique) was added to the sixth batch of Wuxi's municipal intangible cultural heritage representative items.

The production process of Yangshan Rice Cakes primarily comprises glutinous rice preparation, syrup preparation, shaping, and steaming. To begin, the maker lightly sifts glutinous rice flour that has been soaked overnight, then adds natural colors: the bright green extracted from young wheat juice, the warm yellow from steamed and mashed pumpkin and sweet potato, and the soft lavender produced by slowly blending sweet potato with red bean… The kneaded dough is then pressed into various molds to create different shapes. Finally, the molded cakes are steamed until cooked.
