The area has a forest coverage rate of 91.12% and is home to 76 state‑protected species, including the Golden or Sichuan snub‑nosed monkey and Davidia involucrata. Its core landscapes are anchored by Shennongding, the highest peak in central China (3,105.4 meters above sea level), and the high‑altitude Dajiu Lake Wetland.
Main attractions

Shennongding
Ascending to Shennongding's summit rewards visitors with sweeping views of layered forest expanses and boundless skies. The fresh air, heavy with the scent of vegetation, lets visitors fully appreciate nature's craftsmanship.

Shennong Altar
This sacred site honors Yandi (the Yan Emperor), a legendary ancestor of the Chinese people. Towering ancient trees create a serene atmosphere, while an imposing statue of a bull‑headed human figure and stones representing the five elements and colors symbolize the harmonious coexistence of all things.

Dajiu Lake Wetland
Known as the "High‑Mountain Basin" and "Natural Pasture," the Dajiu Lake Wetland transforms with the seasons. Birds skimming the water occasionally make it a paradise for photographers and nature enthusiasts.
Guanmen Mountain
Guanmen Mountain features spectacular stone‑forest landscapes and a natural ecology museum. The museum houses collections of animal and plant specimens and geological data, offering insights into Shennongjia's geological evolution and its rare species. It combines visual appeal with scientific intrigue.

Tianyan Scenic Area
With an average elevation of 2,200 meters, this area comprises Tianmenya and Yanzitya and is surrounded by vast forest. By day, visitors can wander the primary forest, where sunlight filtering through the canopy creates "tunnels of light." At night, activities such as bonfire gatherings and tent stargazing are available.

Tiansheng Bridge
A soaring waterfall cuts through the rock here, while cliffside plank paths intertwine with the culture of the ancient Ba people. A one‑hour hike passes a series of waterfalls, letting visitors appreciate the blend of natural wonders and cultural heritage.
