You can rent a car in person at international airports and downtown rental outlets or book online. For online bookings, you can use a car rental app or search for"car rental" mini-programs within the Alipay or WeChat apps. Register in the app to get started.

1.To rent a car, you must present the following documents: a valid passport or Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card, a driver's license valid in China, and international or Chinese credit cards.

Note: First-time renters should allow at least one working day for ID verification in advance.

2.To apply for a provisional driver's license in China, you must present the following documents to a local traffic management service office of the public security authority: your passport; your overseas driver's license with a Chinese translation; and a recent, bareheaded, full-faced color photo (1-inch size with a white background).

For short-term visitors, the provisional permit is valid for 3 months; for stays longer than 3 months, the validity can be extended up to 1 year. The permit remains valid for multiple entries within its validity period, with no need to reapply.

Note: China has established mutual driver's license recognition agreements with France, Serbia, Belgium, and the United Arab Emirates. Holders of a valid driver's license from these countries may drive in China without applying for a local license or taking a test, in accordance with the terms of the respective agreement.
