National Centre for the Performing Arts - Beijing's "Pearl on the Water"
Published: November 28, 2025
Editor: Ruoxi

The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), located on the West Chang'an Avenue in the heart of Beijing, is adjacent to the Great Hall of the People and Tiananmen Square. The NCPA consists of four venues, including the Opera House, Concert Hall, Theatre, and Multi-functional Theatre, complemented by a full range of supporting facilities, with a total floor area of 217,500 square metres. The entire architectural complex is marked by striking simplicity and grandeur. The uniquely shaped main structure, reflected in a surrounding crystal-clear artificial lake and a vast expanse of green spaces, perfectly embodies its moniker as a "Pearl on the Water." This design masterfully conveys the core philosophy of a "Theatre in the City, a City in the Theatre."
